Statement
Hi, my name is Kiera Harris, I also go by Shaun. I am a New York Native, raised in Queens, who newly transplanted to Memphis, TN two years ago. When I saw this submission, it called for me to apply. My tattoos are my personal journal, my story book. Ever since I was a little girl I envisioned myself to have a sleeve of tattoos that embody my personality and personal expression. I grew up in a time where I was taught that tattoos were frowned upon professionally. With hopes of working in a health profession, I was willing to relinquish those dreams to assimilate to the status quo of "what it means to look professional". As I was gearing to embark on my graduate school career, I made the conscious decision to dispel the opinions of others about me. My tattoos do not define my intelligence, nor capabilities. They are windows of my soul, on display for the world to see. I wear my tattoos proudly.
